International exhibition of documentary video installations. Featuring Morphology/FaceShift by Arthur Elsenaar & Remko Scha, and pieces by Stelarc, Symbiotica, and the Critical Art Ensemble. International Coordination Council: Roy Ascott, Dmitry Bulatov, Oron Catts, Ken Rinaldo, Olga Shishko, Stephen Wilson. Concept: "Robotics, genetic engineering and nanotechnology challenge the traditional boundaries of human existence, and the distinction between the organic and the technological. Contemporary techno-biological art reflects on these issues; it does not confirm today's technology, but investigates its boundaries. Art that is created under the new conditions of postbiology – under the conditions of an artificially fashioned lifespan – cannot help but take this artificiality as its explicit theme. However, time, duration, and life cannot be shown directly but only as documentation. The dominant genre of postbiological art is thus technological documentation: plans, drafts, and videos."
